The organisations' network helping spouses make it in the Northern Netherlands
We understand that restarting your career in a new country takes effort, patience, emotional resilience, and new skills that push you outside your comfort zone. However, you’re not alone. There are organizations like the International Welcome Center North (IWCN) and Make it in the North, dedicated to helping internationals overcome these hurdles and feel at home in the Northern Netherlands. The Dual Career Support of Groningen University is also supporting our international community in this field.

The North of the Netherlands can be a difficult place to start networking if you are new to this environment.
That is why on 28th May 2026 Make it in the North are partnering with International Welcome Center North (IWCN) to allow spouses in Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen to meet each other, network, discuss your experiences and communicate with us about their most pressing needs.
During this event, we will invite a guest from Link050, a local volunteering platform, to inform you on volunteering and the opportunities it can offer for your professional and social life. We will also have an interview-style discussion with spouses who have successfully found fulfilling jobs in the Netherlands. They will share their experiences and insights, providing practical tips on how to kickstart your career in the Northern Dutch labor market. We aim to broaden our networks, open our minds to new possibilities, and, most importantly, ensure that everyone feels supported in this journey. We also want to hear about the challenges you face and the resources you need most as a spouse in the Northern Netherlands. Your feedback will help us tailor our services to better support your needs and make the transition smoother for others in the same situation.
