Spouses Meetup

Did you come to the Netherlands for your Dutch partner, or perhaps because your partner accepted a job here? Are you struggling to build a new social network or learn the language?  Is it challenging to manage most household tasks while trying to adjust to a new country?  Maybe you’re seeking employment but facing obstacles such as language barriers or unrecognized qualifications, or you’ve had to take on a job below your experience or education level.  These challenges can feel overwhelming, especially when navigating them on your own.

We are partnering with International Welcome Center North (IWCN) to bring you an event which addresses both career possibilities and your questions, as well as fosters our growing network of spouses in the North of the Netherlands. Dual Career Support (DCS) from University of Groningen is also supporting this international community and will be joining this event.

You have probably already heard that networking is crucial for starting a new life here; but sometimes we don’t know how to do it, how to begin, or what skills we need for that.  This time, we have a special guest, Kayla Ihrig, who will share tips on the subject based on her experience and expertise.  And she is also a spouse herself.

Additionally,  will have an interview-style discussion with spouses who have successfully found fulfilling jobs in the Netherlands. And there will be extra time to connect and talk amongst ourselves.

Finally, we want to specifically leave space for networking, mingling and sharing spouse experiences amongst participants!

We aim to broaden our networks, open our minds to new possibilities, and, most importantly, ensure that everyone feels supported in this journey.  We also want to hear about the challenges you face and the resources you need most as a spouse in the Northern Netherlands.  Your feedback will help us tailor our services to better support your needs and make the transition smoother for others in the same situation.

The event will take place at the International Welcome Center North (IWCN), Gedempte Zuiderdiep, Groningen, Netherlands. IWCN is located across the street from Doppio, to the right of the Subway restaurant on the Gedeempte Zuiderdiep. If you arrive by bike, you will be able to safely park it in the bike parking of the Gemeente.
