Interesting or nice about this vacancy

You expand your world, meet someone outside your own 'bubble', and by offering some time and attention once every two weeks, you can already make a difference for someone else!

Tasks and duties

Would you enjoy regularly keeping someone (aged 18 to around 70) company? Are you a good listener and chatterbox? Do you like playing games? Or do you get energy from going out with someone? Then being a buddy might be for you!

Through Humanitas, you can make a big difference as a buddy.

With 1 to 2 hours every other week or weekly, you can play an important role as a volunteer buddy. Together, we will look at what you would like to do and who suits you best. Your presence brightens someone's day, and that in itself is a wonderful goal. Contact with a volunteer who provides positive attention can also help someone take a small step forward and start making new connections themselves.

If you are interested in a specific topic or particular target group, you are also very welcome to join us. Think of:

  • Support with loss / grief.
  • Dementia.
  • Help with administration.
  • Supporting someone with a mental vulnerability.
  • Practical chores or grocery shopping for someone.
  • Support in the final phase of life.
  • Become a buddy to someone at the Mesdag Clinic.

Can't decide yet? That's okay, we're happy to help. Just contact us to discuss it further.

Skills and qualities

In general, you will get very far if you possess the following skills:

  • You are a good listener and interested in others.
  • You can independently establish and maintain contact with someone.
  • You try to respond to the other person's question and do not give (unsolicited) advice.

Additional information

You are supported in your volunteer work by a coordinator and can attend regular meetings to discuss your experiences and questions or to learn skills.
