Do you get a thrill from hearing a different story every time? Are you a good listener for status holders and do you enjoy making phone calls? Then we are looking for you!

Through the Social Support for Refugees project, Humanitas offers guidance to status holders. This lasts for three years from the moment they move to Groningen. After the first important administrative appointments have taken place with us, individuals become independent. Contact is maintained occasionally. Are they managing in their new environment? Do they know how to find the support at Humanitas?

As a volunteer, you call them occasionally. You help them think things through when they encounter practical problems, or suggest where they can make more social contacts or participate in sports, for example. Additionally, you can assess together whether things are going well in all areas of their lives. As a volunteer, you speak with a diverse group of status holders; every time, you hear a new story! It is important that you are good at asking follow-up questions. Because many status holders do not yet speak Dutch very well, they often speak in another language, such as English, Arabic, Turkish, or Tigrinya.

Do you speak another language? Then you are of course welcome too! You will speak to multiple participants at a time. The time commitment is half a day per week at the Humanitas office, which can be scheduled flexibly. You can choose to sit alone, but working together with other volunteers is also possible.

Does this sound interesting to you, or do you have some questions first? Feel free to get in touch!
