Do you love beautiful gardens, do you have a green thumb, and do you enjoy working outdoors with others? Then youβve come to the right place at De Buitenplaats in Eelde! We are looking for volunteers to maintain De Buitenplaatsβs magnificent garden and to strengthen the existing gardening group. We offer you the following:
- A fun volunteer position in one of the most beautiful gardens in (Northern) the Netherlands.
- Receipt of the quarterly magazine and the volunteer newsletter of Het Drentse Landschap.
- Invitations for the volunteer outings organized by Het Drentse Landschap.
- Education and training appropriate to the work.
- Liability and group accident insurance.
- An expense allowance for commuting (maximum 30 km one-way).
- Workwear on loan.
Tasks and duties
The garden group usually meets on Tuesdays to work in the garden. All kinds of gardening tasks are carried out, varying by season. We are particularly looking for extra help with the following tasks:
- Pruning trees, as in the orchard.
- Pruning/shearing of hedges and shrubs (shape pruning).
- Maintenance of a 'green roof' (Sedum).
- Mowing the lawn and weeding.
We are specifically looking for volunteers for one or more of the above-mentioned activities.
However, naturally, other work can also be carried out in consultation.
Skills and qualities
- You have an affinity for (historic) gardens and preferably some knowledge or experience with garden maintenance.
- Possession of a VCA or BHV certificate is recommended.
- You are physically capable of performing the work properly.
- You have an open attitude towards guests visiting the garden and enjoy talking about working in the garden.
- You enjoy working with other volunteers, but you can also work well independently.
- You are available one day a week (usually Tuesday).
- You enjoy participating in education/training to perform the volunteer role.
