  • You have a degree in finance at least at higher national education (HBO) level, preferably with several years’ work experience in the field of finance.
  • You have an affinity for project administration and project monitoring/budget management.
  • You have a flair for figures, a proactive attitude and a broad range of interests.
  • You approach your work analytically and decisively and have a good sense of priorities.
  • You have experience with Excel and automated (financial) ERP systems.
  • You have good communication skills in both spoken and written English.
  • You speak Dutch, or are willing to learn to speak Dutch.

The Business Coordinator plays a key role in the day-to-day operations of the Bernoulli Institute. You will collaborate with the Bernoulli Office, as well as the HR and Project Control departments.

You will play a multifaceted role with the following responsibilities:

  • Implementing operational policies, such as managing and monitoring staffing levels and finances.
  • Preparing internal and external financial reports
  • Supporting direct and indirect funded research, such as assisting project leaders with grant applications, communicating with internal and external partners and funding agencies, and monitoring funded projects. This involves close collaboration with the Project Control department.
  • Managing contracts, advising on contract terms and related financial aspects, and liaising and coordinating with various stakeholders and the ABJZ department.
  • (Financial) Administrative tasks related to staff appointments
  • Advising budget holders on the structure and feasibility of budgets
  • Advising on external funding and grant opportunities/conditions and, if necessary, supporting project leaders in conducting negotiations on these matters in collaboration with the Funding Officer
  • Providing financial management reports on projects to project leaders, budget holders, institute management, controllers, and/or faculty management.
  • Reviewing reimbursements and invoices for accuracy and completeness and ensuring timelypayment
  • Monitoring budget execution and identifying (imminent) (project) budget overruns. Ensuring that (project) budgets are not exhausted

The Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is a research institute within the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen. Approximately 250 researchers work at the institute. The institute’s staff is international and, in many cases, English is the working language. The institute’s support staff is managed by the institute manager and consists of a seven-member secretariat, a PhD coordinator/Funding Officer and a business coordinator.
