Senior Lecturer in Economic evaluation in healthcare / Health Technology Assessment (HTA)

The University of Groningen, Faculty of Economics and Business, is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Economic evaluation in healthcare / Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to join our team for course coordination and teaching in the MSc Business Administration Health program. Within our faculty, the successful candidate will take on the responsibility for the coordination, lecturing, examination, and thesis supervision in the field of economic evaluation methods and their application to managerial and clinical (including pharmaceutical) innovations in the health

sector.

You have:

• A PhD in Health Economics, HTA, or a closely related field (e.g., Epidemiology, Pharmaceutical Economics).
• Expertise on the range of economic evaluation methods and health technology assessment techniques and when and how to apply them to both clinical (incl. pharmaceutical) and managerial innovations in healthcare.
• Expertise on the differences and complementarity between economic and clinical research methods.
• Specialist (research) network in Groningen area in which the teaching can be embedded.
• Research supervision skills at Master’s level.
• Course coordination and development competencies and experience.
• University Teaching Qualification (UTQ).
• Fluency in English (Dutch is a plus).

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver lectures and tutorials on:

1. Theoretical background of economic evaluation in healthcare, including its role in policy decisions.
2. Economic evaluation methods (e.g., cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, cost-benefit analysis) and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) techniques and their practical application in healthcare decision-making; as well as guide students in distinguishing and applying multiple methods (e.g., trial-based vs. model-based) and interpreting clinical outcome measures for economic analyses.
3. Complementarity between economic and clinical research methods (e.g., integrating economic endpoints in clinical trials).
4. Measurement and application of valuing resource use and quality of life in healthcare economic evaluations; and facilitation of critical discussions with students on how economic evaluation results influence healthcare innovation adoption and stakeholder perspectives.

• Coordinate courses related to health economics, HTA.
• Develop and update course materials to reflect the latest advancements in the field.
• Collaborate with clinical, pharmaceutical, and managerial stakeholders to bridge economic and clinical perspectives, and organize guest lectures.
• Supervise Master’s-level research projects (e.g., theses, internships) in economic evaluation/HTA.
• Contribute to curriculum development and interdisciplinary projects.
