Spouses Meetup

- Gedempte Zuiderdiep 98 Groningen.
IWCN and Make it in the North are happy to invite you to our third Spouses Meetup! Are you an international spouse looking to start or grow your career in the Northern Netherlands? This event is designed specifically for you. Through this series, we aim to support spouses in navigating the local job market, understanding cultural differences, and finding meaningful work opportunities.
Sign up via IWCN!
So you found yourself moving to the Netherlands because your partner found a great job opportunity in Groningen, Friesland, or Drenthe. While thatโs great news for them, you may also be itching to get back to doing the work you love, or perhaps youโll use this opportunity to try something new.
We understand that restarting your career in a new country takes effort, patience, emotional resilience, and new skills that push you outside your comfort zone.ย However, youโre not alone.ย Theย International Welcome Center North (IWCN) and Make it in the North areย dedicated to helping internationals, including spouses,ย overcome these hurdles and feel at home in the Northern Netherlands.
From the series of events for Spouses support, in collaboration with Make it in The North, we bring you this themed event, with the support of the organization Waard*:ย Work related discrimination issues;ย Not the most fun topic but we do need to talk about it. Learning about issues around discrimination as an international is important, as it will make you feel more secure and confident when looking for a job or working in the Netherlands.
During this workshop, Waard โ Kennis Centrum voor Inclusie, will share their knowledge and offer support around this important subject to internationals. We will:
- Get to know what kind of support you can find through IWCN, Make it in the North and Waard.
- Get to know what the Dutch discrimination legislation is.
- Mention examples of situations of discrimination at work or while looking for a job.
- Explore the difference between discrimination, micro-aggressions and possible cultural differences.
- Let you know what to do if you experience discrimination while working or while looking for a job.
- While this workshop is mostly about discrimination theory, we will also discuss discrimination through real life scenarios (through submission of your own case if you have one).
Do you have experiences with discrimination, microaggression or other situations, where you have felt unsure? Please add the note in the registration form telling: โI have a study case for the workshopโ. We will put you in contact with the host from Waard who will do the activity (while keeping your privacy in mind) and we will discuss them during the workshop if you agree. (Sharing a case is not mandatory. Everyone is welcome participate in the workshop weather you have a case or not).
