With a close-knit team, you can make a big difference for women trapped in prostitution. The Overweeghuis is a citizens initiative and an independent foundation in a shelter for 6/7 women. This foundation was set up because there is (currently) no low-threshold (crisis) shelter for these women in Groningen if they want to get out for a while or if they have not yet decided to leave prostitution permanently.Ā As a result, they hardly get the chance to be in a calm and loving environment in which they can think about how they want to shape the future, what other possibilities there are and how they can achieve these. The Overweeghuis offers temporary, accessible 24-hour (crisis) care with as few rules as possible. To ensure the approachability, there are a few volunteers who contribute to safety in and around the nearby area of the house.
During the stay, they stop working within prostitution and get help with controlled drug use. They are also monitored that they do not cause neighbourhood nuisance or harass other fellow residents.
