Intern Venting through porous steel using 3D printing in injection molding
Your role:
You will beĀ participatingĀ in theĀ Technology Team ā Architecture, Molding and DecorationĀ at Philips Drachten, where you get the opportunity to work on the following graduate assignmentĀ āĀ Venting through porous steelĀ using 3D printingĀ in injection molding.Ā When injecting plasticĀ inĀ a mold, we need to get rid of the air during this process. This typically happensĀ at small openings in the mold (ejector pins, split lines, sliders).Ā Using 3D printing, we can print porous structure in the mold that enables venting in places where this is normally not possible.
As a graduate internĀ your main responsibilities are:
- Investigate the opportunity to use porous structures in venting
- Investigate the performance andĀ life timeĀ of these porous structuresĀ using a test setup
- Conclude the research inĀ anĀ advice on how to apply porous structures in future injection molding tools
You're the right fit if:
- you are studyingĀ towardsĀ your Bachelor or Master in: Mechanical Engineering/Ā Material Science or Physics;
- Fluent in English (written and verbal)
- Passion for 3D printing
- Eye for detailĀ andĀ curious nature
- Hands on mentality, team player and result driven.

- Monthly full-time allowance between ā¬500 - ā¬700 gross, depending on your education level and if you need to relocate to The Netherlands. Part-time internships receive the allowance pro-rata.
- Housing compensation. Should you need to relocate to near our office, weāll offer you a monthly allowance of ā¬300,-Ā net if location is in the vicinity of Amsterdam, ā¬255,- net for all other Philips locations. To be eligible, weāll just ask for the rental contract from your landlord, and your usual home-work travel distance needs to be more than 50 km or 1.5 hours of travel time (for a one way trip).
- Travel compensation, if you are not eligible for a free public transport card; you will receive max.Ā ā¬192,-Ā netĀ asĀ a monthly allowance.
- Paid holidays per internship term.
