Are you a creative product developer with a strong sense for both design and manufacturability? At Spanninga, we are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer who will take ownership of the entire design process of our bicycle lighting products. From the first concept to a production-ready solution: you turn ideas into reality, for both our own product range and customer-specific projects worldwide.

Your Role
Within the R&D team, you are the key figure in translating concepts into manufacturable, highquality products. You balance mechanical design, technical feasibility, and aesthetics, while
safeguarding progress throughout the development process. The best part of this role: you
get to see your designs evolve into products that improve the safety of millions of cyclists. In
collaboration with our product manager, suppliers, and production partners, you will:

  • translate customer and market needs into new product concepts, all the way to
    production-ready solutions;
  • demonstrate technical and economic feasibility (materials, tolerances, cost price, and
    manufacturability);
  • test and validate prototypes and convert findings into concrete improvements;
  • design plastic parts and housings suitable for injection molding and assembly
    techniques;
  • contribute to project planning by defining and monitoring the technical planning;
  • collaborate closely with Electrical and Optical Engineers to achieve well-integrated
    product solutions;
  • apply Design for Assembly principles, in close cooperation with our teams in China and
    France.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or
    a similar field;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Product Design;
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks);
  • Experience with designing plastic products (injection molding experience is a strong
    plus);
  • Experienced in testing, validating, and substantiating design decisions;
  • Good command of English (minimum CEFR B2 level);
  • Strong technical and creative abilities;
  • Willingness to travel internationally;
  • Able to work at Spanninga’s headquarters in Joure, with the possibility to work
    remotely.
