Thanks to the generosity of the Sent Marks Fonds we are able to invite applications for a fully funded, 4-year PhD position in the field of Classical Literature. The dissertation should make a novel contribution to the study of ancient Greek or Latin literature in relation to posthumanism and/or environmental criticism. Candidates are free to design a project within this remit, according to their own interests and expertise. They may focus on one specific work or author, or engage with a range of genres and texts while focusing on a specific theme or approach. The project should be of suitable size to be completed within four years. The selected candidate will be based at the Chair group of Latin and Greek Literature and Culture and will be affiliated with the Research Institute for the Study of Culture Groningen (ICOG). They will be enrolled in the Groningen Graduate School for the Humanities and the Dutch national graduate school for Classics, OIKOS. They will also be able to participate in the activities of the Groningen institute for the study of the ancient world (CRASIS).

The position involves

- Writing a dissertation within four years.
- Completing relevant PhD training courses as offered by the local and national graduate schools.

Carrying out limited teaching tasks in the Classics department (0.4 FTE in total spread across the appointment, with the opportunity to receive relevant training in advance).
