Professor of Business and Management in Life- Long Learning

The Board of the Faculty of Economics and Business proposes the appointment of a Professor of Business and Management in Life-Long Learning. This professor is a 1.0 fulltime position and only internal staff members of the University of Groningen can apply.
Life-long learning has become crucial in education, work and in society due to compelling social, economic and personal reasons. Digital transformation and increasingly GenAI tooling are reshaping the labour market. To assure future prosperity, including social well-being, innovation and financial and economic stewardship, new economic & business models are required. Lifelong learning helps in adapting to new tools, roles and businesses, and supports economic resilience and sustainable growth. It provides second changes to people and can enhance mental health and personal growth. Besides, life-long education and learning contributes significantly to having impact on society through knowledge transfer and innovation as well as by nourishing funded programmes.
Business schools around the globe and increasingly in the Netherlands have been playing a strong role in management and leadership development by providing Executive (MBA) education and non- degree programs focusing on general leadership, and on specific topics, such as digital transformation, health and social well-being, energy economics and logistics, and sustainability.
Target groups are graduates that are employed in a large range of businesses, government and health institutions, and non-profit organizations.
The chair has an important role in stimulating the development and offering of lifelong learning education with a focus, but not exclusively, on business and management. The chair should also develop knowledge on life-long learning best practices and education, specifically in business and management. Given the important developments and challenges in business and society an interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach in education and research is important. The chair is situated at the Faculty of Economics and Business, but should also enhance the development of executive education within the University of Groningen.
