Tetra Pak in the Netherlands is truly a global leader with a local touch

Tetra Pak, a world-renowned company in food processing and packaging solutions, was originally founded in Sweden and now has its headquarters in Switzerland. But it also calls the Netherlands home, with a strong presence in Heerenveen, Friesland.
“In the North of the Netherlands, there’s also a lot of activity going on in the food industry and especially in the dairy industry. So we fit in perfectly,” says HR representative Tiny Post.
Post spoke with Make it in the North to offer insights into how the company embraces international talent and prioritises employee well-being. “We protect what’s good and that involves our customers, our projects, our products, and our people,” she says.

Tetra Pak’s Dutch team is known for its inclusive and supportive environment. “Whenever we have new joiners, they feel very welcome here. We have new joiners from the Netherlands and also from countries all over the world. From Russia, India, and New Zealand. They come from everywhere!” explains Post.
Dr Ruben Rausing founded Testra Pak in 1952 by, creating to revolutionise milk packaging. Partnering with Swedish engineer Erik Wallenberg, Rausing developed a tetrahedron-shaped paper container, which gave the company its name and laid the foundation for safer food distribution worldwide.

Located in Friesland, the Heerenveen office benefits from access to a skilled workforce and proximity to local customers. Employees often highlight the laid-back lifestyle of the northern Netherlands. “It’s also not as hectic as it is in the South and there’s less of that rat race feeling here. That’s what I hear that people find appealing,” according to Post.
A modern approach to onboarding and growth
Tetra Pak blends in-person and remote work seamlessly. New hires, even if managed remotely, are given the tools they need to thrive. Managers oversee onboarding and assign a buddy to help the new employee settle in. A comprehensive digital onboarding programme, complete with company videos, also supports new starters.
